BJC Advocates for Maryland to Divest from Iran 
In 2008, BJC successfully lobbied for Senate Bill 214 / House Bill 371, “Divestiture from Iran and Sudan.” The bill requires the Maryland State Retirement and Pension System (MSRPS) to divest from its portfolio all stocks of foreign companies doing a substantial amount of business with the energy sectors of Iran and Sudan. This is one of the strongest Iran Divestment bills in the nation.

BJC Annual Meeting 2009 
Kweisi Mfume, Fraser Smith and Rabbi Mark G. Loeb

The Council held its Annual Meeting Thursday, titled, "Maryland's Battle for Civil Rights." Panelists included long-time activists and leaders Kweisi Mfume, Rabbi Mark Loeb, and WYPR commentator Fraser Smith. Over 200 people came to hear and discuss the State of Civil Rights in Maryland.
