How Your Dollars Help
Meeting the Needs of our Brothers and
Sisters in Israel
Did you know...
- On July 25th, the Jewish Agency for Israel
led a historic rescue mission which brought to Israel six Iraqi
Jews, who had been separated from their family and friends for
some 50 years. For two weeks, in cooperation with the American
Armed Forces and HIAS, the Department worked out the details of
this secret operation.
- Last week alone, 447 Jews from the former Soviet
Union, France, Latin America, and North America made aliyah. So
far in 2003, more than 12,000 Jews have made aliyah.
- The “Home and Together” program was
launched bringing together three major absorption initiatives:
The “Family-to-Family” volunteer program, which pairs
new and veteran olim; employment counseling and programs; and
community coordinators. These initiatives are designed to help
ease and expedite the olim's social absorption process in Israel,
and ultimately encourage greater aliyah. Some 500 families have
already signed up for the "Family-to-Family" program.
- More than 1,300 Israeli counselors worked at Jewish
summer camps across the United States, including 4 at Camp Mildale
in Baltimore, helping to bring Israel to our summer camps thus
strengthening the connection between American youth and Israel.
Thanks to your contribution to THE ASSOCIATED
annual campaign, we are able to stand by our pledge to work with
our overseas partners to preserve and enhance Jewish life around
the world.
