The Baltimore Jewish Council (BJC) is a consensus organization that comprises over 50 Jewish organizations and synagogues in the Baltimore metropolitan region. The BJC, the community relations and political arm of The Associated: Jewish Community Federation of Baltimore, combats anti-Semitism, educates the Jewish and general communities about Israel and world Jewry, and provides political support and advocacy for relevant legislation.
Baltimore Jewish Council policy is developed through an open, inclusive, representative and consensus-driven process. The committees of the Council identify issues and develop strategies to forward the BJC’s agenda. Issues are usually first discussed on the committee level, a policy recommendation is voted on in committee, and the policy is then referred to the Executive Committee and the Board of Directors of the Baltimore Jewish Council. The final step to support or oppose a specific policy is taken by the Board, which votes to either accept or reject the committee recommendation.
