Advocacy and Awareness

There are many ways you can support and express solidarity with Israel and take action. BJC’s Israel Action Center equips you with advocacy tools, links to news and media resources, and an Israel community calendar.

Take Action

  1. Know the Facts. Stay Informed. Educate yourself on the issues. Read the news. Local news sources include the Baltimore Sun, The Washington Post, and the Baltimore Jewish Times. But also go beyond local news coverage. Learn directly from Israel. Visit Haaretz, The Jerusalem Post, YNet News or Globes. For more news links, click here. To subscribe to BJC’s Israel Connection, an e-newsletter containing important articles and updates about Israel, click here.

  2. Spread the word. Communicate the key messages to others. Send a letter to the editor. Call in to a local radio show. Click here for talking points and updated information to be used in conversation, or even radio call-ins.

  3. Implement programs. Help plan and attend Israel educational forums in synagogues, JCC's, universities, and other venues across the Greater Baltimore area.

  4. Get political. Watch for Action Alerts from BJC’s Israel Action Center, to know when to contact your local, county, state and federal elected officials. It is important to keep an appropriate balance between letters urging action, letters expressing disappointment, and whenever you contact your legislators, always make sure to follow-up their action on our behalf with "thank-yous." Even if you know your representative is a strong supporter of Israel, saying "thank you" and urging ongoing support is important and we cannot take their support for granted. Click here to find your local legislators.

  5. Host learning meetings. Open your home to have informal parlor meetings for non-Jews (colleagues and friends) and for other Jews less connected to Israel. All of us are emissaries for Israel and all of us know such people. The BJC Israel Action Center's Israel's Speaker Bureau is available to assist in bringing someone to speak and teach. Email Chana Siff for more information.

  6. Media watch. Monitor and respond to the media, in writing or to radio shows. For letter writing tips and samples click here.

  7. Buy Israeli products. Support the Israeli economy by purchasing products from Israel.

  8. Investing in Israeli’s future. Invest in Israel and Israeli companies. Contact the Maryland Israel Development Center to find more ways to invest in the economic relationship between Maryland and Israel.

  9. Divest from Terror. To ensure that you do not purchase products from companies that do business with anti-Israel nations or those that support terror, click here.

  10. Get others involved. Involve your parents, children and grandchildren in all of these endeavors. This may be the most important action all of us can take for ourselves, for our future and for Israel. to contact the Find ways to educate your kids about Israel through the Baltimore Council on Jewish Education or The Israeli Embassy.

  11. GO TO ISRAEL. The best was to stay connected with Israel is to spend time there. There are many ways to travel to Israel from Greater Baltimore and beyond. It all starts with the Baltimore-Ashkelon Sister City partnership. Click here for more information.
