Summer Teachers Institute 2023: Dismantling Holocaust Denial in the Classroom is a professional development workshop for teachers and education professionals. This year’s program will focus on tropes of Holocaust denial and distortion as well as the intersections of denial, white supremacy, and contemporary antisemitism. Additionally, participants will practice concrete actions they can take to build resilient classroom communities, teach media literacy skills, and address denial and distortion in their own classrooms.
This year’s Summer Teachers Institute begins with two half-days of synchronous sessions delivered over Zoom. The final day will take place in-person at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, D.C. There will be additional asynchronous assignments due two weeks after the conclusion of the Institute.
The Summer Teachers Institute will take place on the following dates:
- August 1 and 2 from 9:00 a.m. – 1:15 p.m. on Zoom
- August 3 from 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum.
Registration is first come, first served, and you will receive a confirmation email once your registration is complete (please check your junk mail folder). After the maximum number of participants (45) have enrolled, the option to join a wait list will be available. There is no registration fee for this program, and transportation via coach bus to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum will be provided.
While materials at the Summer Teachers Institute are best suited for middle and high school Social Studies and English Language Arts classrooms, our team welcomes all teachers and education professionals who wish to participate in this program.
