DESCRIPTION:A year ago\, the debate between Israel’s government and its judiciary over the nature of its democracy began\, leading to months of division and mass public protests. A high school teacher instructs students to argue for the Final Solution\, a euphemism used to describe the Nazi plan for the genocide of the Jewish people. Two upstanders in the class speak out against this assignment and are met with conflict and struggle. The book discusses themes of antisemitism\, discrimination\, the rise of hate groups\, as well as the role of media and institutions. \nModerated by a 4Front teen board member of the Jewish Library of Baltimore\, Wiemer joins us to speak about themes of allyship\, upstanders\, and helping students speak up against injustice and hate. The event will begin with a teen-led Chanukkah candle lighting and will include delicious Chanukkah treats.
