Police officer stabbed while guarding Great Synagogue of Tunis

(JTA) — A police officer guarding The Great Synagogue of Tunis was stabbed by a 45-year-old assailant.
City officials increased security around the synagogue located in downtown Tunis after the late morning Tuesday attack, the French news agency AFP reported.
A police spokesman told AFP that the man, a resident of a suburb of Tunis, does not have a criminal record. His motive remains unknown, although local news outlets quoted witnesses as saying he was shouting anti-Israel slogans, according to the Algemeiner.
He was taken by police for interrogation.
