Federal Government
The Baltimore Jewish Council maintains strong relationships with government leaders in Washington, D.C. Whether we are securing federal funds, or advocating for Israel, we work closely with our elected officials on issues of concern to the Jewish community.
Branches of Government
The United States Federal government consists of three branches of government: Executive, Legislative and Judicial.
Executive
The power of the Executive Branch is vested in the President of the United States, who also acts as head of state and Commander-in-Chief of the armed forces. The Vice President is also part of the Executive Branch, ready to assume the Presidency should the need arise.

Legislative
The Legislative Branch’s power lies with the United States Congress which includes the U.S Senate and U.S House of Representatives.
In the Senate and House of Representatives, Maryland has two U.S. Senators and eight U.S. Representatives.
Judicial
The Judicial Branch includes the entire federal court system of the United States with the Supreme Court of the United States placed as the highest court in the country. The judges of the Supreme Court are appointed by the President of the United States and confirmed by the Senate.

Federal Grants
The Baltimore Jewish Council works with the Federal government to secure grants for the Baltimore Jewish community. For fiscal year 2019 the Baltimore Jewish Council helped secure over $1,700,000 in Homeland Security Grants for area community institutions.
Partner Organizations
Jewish Council for Public Affairs (JCPA)
BJC is a member organization of the Jewish Council for Public Affairs, which serves as the representative voice of the organized American Jewish community.
Jewish Federations of North America
The BJC works closely with the Jewish Federations of North America on many issues, including health and human service policy.
The American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC)
BJC works in tandem with AIPAC to advocate for Israel’s right to exist in peace and security.
BJC works with J Street to promote a two state solution in the Middle East.
