GOVERNMENT RELATIONS

The Baltimore Jewish Council, a coalition of central Maryland Jewish organizations and congregations, advocates at all levels of government, on a variety of social welfare, economic and religious concerns, to protect and promote the interests of The Associated: Jewish Federation of Baltimore, its agencies and the Greater Baltimore Jewish community.

The 442nd session of the Maryland General Assembly concluded on April 12, 2021. The Baltimore Jewish Council’s legislative team played an active role throughout the session advocating for a robust set of priorities on behalf of the Baltimore Jewish Community and the entire State of Maryland. Below is a list of priority bills and budget items that we advocated for and a report on their final status.  Learn about each of our priority bills and budget items, as well as their final status in our end of session report.

GOVERNMENT RELATIONS COMMITTEE

The Government Relations Committee (GRC) is responsible for monitoring and adopting positions on federal, state and local legislation. It serves as a vehicle for developing public policy resolutions and positions. The GRC also engages in political activism on behalf of the organized Jewish community. The GRC meets several times each year to discuss public policy issues.  Each year the GRC hosts Advocacy Day in Annapolis, which gives our constituents the opportunity to lobby legislators on behalf of the Greater Baltimore Jewish community.

Monitor and adopt positions on federal, state and local legislation; develop public policy positions; advocate and lobby for public funds to enhance services, safety, and capital projects in the Jewish community
